How should we judge people in the past? Should we judge them at all? Can we still learn from the past if we don’t judge it somehow? Is it possible NOT to judge? What things do we need to understand about the past in order to understand it better and not make rash, emotional, out-of-context judgements?

Read up to page 81

History of US Book 1

Chapters 16-18 (pages 75-87)

Chapters 20-22 (pages 93-110)

Chapters 34-36 (pages 147-161)

2. Thought Paper

Answer the following question:

“History is told through the viewpoint or lens of the storyteller. Who do you know that tells stories? It could be a sibling, a parent, a grandparent, a friend, another relative. What is a story that you remember? (It could be a real event they shared or a pretend story.) What do the stories tell you about the storyteller?”

Bring your answer to class stapled behind your cover sheet. The answer can be typed or handwritten. Spelling and punctuation will not be corrected by your mentors. Just put your thoughts down. Type or write whatever comes to your mind. However, if possible we encourage you to have correct spelling and punctuation just so you can get in the habit.
